I‘m not sure what happens in one’s head when a college asks for an essay in response to a certain prompt. The mind tends to freeze up, worrying too much about answering that question in the way you think the questioner wants it answered. You suddenly forget everything, including finding an approach you can use for the response.

But what really needs to be done– before you even think about answering the prompt – is to do a little analysis to categorize it in the way I did above. Once you know that, you may see you have already written a response and you can start to relax and move forward with less stress.
